Nagaland Has Become Second State In India To Implement The TEACH Tool-Informative Guide

What Led Nagaland To Implement The TEACH Tool?

The implementation of the Teach Tool is just one of the many interventions being undertaken under the NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) project. This comprehensive initiative aims to holistically improve the quality of education, teaching practices, capacity building, and learning environments in government schools across Nagaland.

Leadership Commitment

During the valedictory program on September 22nd, Kevileno Angami, the Commissioner and Secretary of School Education and SCERT, challenged the trainees, stating,

"Let's light the fire of quality teaching and learning practices in Nagaland, to create effective and safe learning spaces for our children."

This powerful call to action underscores the leadership's commitment to driving transformative change in the state's educational landscape.

The Principal Director of the Department of School Education (DoSE) and Project Director of NECTAR echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the trainees' roles in carrying out the objectives of the Teach Tool. Their words of encouragement highlighted the tool's potential to improve teaching and learning practices across Nagaland, particularly in government schools.

A Collaborative Effort

In implementing the Teach Tool, the Department of School Education has enlisted the support of Leadership for Equity (LFE), a technical agency that is collaborating with the World Bank to roll out this initiative. LFE's expertise and guidance are invaluable in ensuring the successful execution of this transformative project.

Now let’s get to know when Nagaland decided to implement the TEACH tools, and what are the results and outcomes it brought to the whole education system:

Capacity Building

To ensure the successful implementation of the Teach Tool, a rigorous ten-day training program for master trainers (Trainers of Teachers) was conducted at the Mount Tabor Retreat Centre in Kohima, commencing on September 13th. This intensive training aimed to build internal capacity and equip trainers with the necessary skills to monitor and evaluate the quality of teacher-student interactions in the classroom.

Progressive Results

The training program has yielded a remarkable outcome, with 37 Trainers of Teachers (ToTs) attached to various Educational Block Resource Centres (EBRCs) within Samagra Shiksha successfully qualifying and receiving certification. Additionally, three officials from the Nagaland Core Team, comprising representatives from the Department of School Education (DoSE) and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), as well as three members from the NECTAR team, have also earned certification.

Comprehensive Wide Coverage

In the coming years, a formidable force of 400-500 observers from all 16 districts of Nagaland will be trained to utilize the Teach Tool effectively. These observers will play a crucial role in mentoring and guiding other teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the state's educational ecosystem.

Further Development In the Future

The baseline observations data collected through the Teach Tool will serve as a valuable resource for designing relevant and effective learning opportunities for teachers in Nagaland. By identifying strengths and areas for growth, this data will inform the development of tailored Teacher Professional Development (TPD) practices, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of teaching and learning in the state.
